Whenever anyone asks me where else I want to travel to, the answer is always:
Everywhere x
Hi I’m Emma!
I have lived and worked in four different countries, from my home in Ireland to the other side of the world on a working holiday in Australia. In between, I have traveled all around Europe and spent nine months backpacking South East Asia on an average budget of €42 per day.
I don’t count countries, I count experiences, beautiful views and cute cafe finds.
In Oz I went from the outback taking care of horses, to working in skyscrapers overlooking the Sydney Opera House (while pet-sitting full time and training for a half-marathon!), to driving 1000’s of km solo and car-camping up the East Coast.
These days I’m back in my corporate data girly era in Spain, improving my Spanish, eating tapas, recapping my adventures to date and still exploring. This year I also walked 250km of the Camino de Santiago.
Data, Maps & Motorbike Loops
I love love love travel planning, especially optimizing routes so you spend less time getting from A to B and more time enjoying A & B. I love diving deep into the culture and history of everywhere I visit, I am that annoying person in the group who will ask the tour guide a load of questions despite a language barrier.
Google Maps is genuinely one of my favourite and most-used apps, I happily spend hours saving the best places on a map so that once I’m there I can easily see where’s good to eat nearby before I get hangry, cool things to do nearby and scenic viewpoints when I’m already en route.
My happy place is driving around on a scooter on an island or through the mountains going from viewpoint to cafe taking a thousand photos en route. I love going off the beaten path and have done four multi-day, motorbike loops in SE Asia in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. My favourite compliment I’ve ever received was from a lovely Thai lady whose guest house I stayed at in Mae Hong Son. After I told her the route I took to get there she said “Wow, very brave girl!!”.
I’m a data girly at heart. Budget planning, route optimization, finding the best experiences and bringing an analytical eye to travel is what I’m good at.
